PrepTest 157, Section 2, 23. Filmmaker: I use hidden cameras…

read

How will the right answer fit in terms of support and conclusion?

Only the right answer will add support for the conclusion.

Highlight the main conclusion in the passage, if there is one:

my documentaries are more worthwhile than documentaries in which, for example, people speak directly to the camera.

Filmmaker: [BACKGROUND]. [SUPPORT]. Hence, [CONCLUSION].

This thing totally contradicts itself, but this isn’t a “flaw” question so whatever. What you key in on here is that the right answer is a principle, which means it has to map exactly to the judgment in the conclusion. In other words, start scanning for answers that tell you when something is “more worthwhile”.

Map the wording of the answers to the wording of the passage:

(D) …the more worthwhile it is.

This is the only answer that mentions what’s “worthwhile”, so your eye wants to scan the list and read this first. They expect us to decide that “more authentically” maps to “act naturally.” If that makes sense, this is a big winner that we can just pick and move on.

(A) …no purpose other than authentically…

The argument says nothing about the “purpose” of the doc or whether it has more than one.

(B) …does not include any subjects speaking directly to a camera.

The “speak directly to the camera” thing is just an example in the passage. So this answer doesn’t “justify” the conclusion, especially since “worthwhile” isn’t mentioned.

(C) …do not have a moral obligation…

Whether they have a “more obligation” or not doesn’t factor into the passage, which doesn’t say anything about what’s right or wrong.

(E) …should not try to discover the locations of the cameras…

A silly and obviously irrelevant (E), maybe written by somebody who was getting a little tired haha.

(E) is the correct answer.

Common pattern/s in this question: Do you see how knowing that a principle will map to the exact wording of the conclusion makes this one pretty easy? Maybe you’re saying, “isn’t this also a comparison?” Great pattern recognition! I didn’t focus on that here since the principle thing lets you anticipate the right answer more precisely, but you’ll notice the right answer is also the only one that makes the same comparison as the conclusion.πŸ‘
