How will the right answer fit in terms of support and conclusion?

Only the right answer will add support that guarantees the conclusion.

Highlight the main conclusion in the passage, if there is one:

most independent films do not have absolute integrity as works of art.

Filmmaker: [BACKGROUND]. However, [SUPPORT], and [SUPPORT]. Thus, [CONCLUSION].

The author changes the subject slightly by bringing in “absolute” integrity when that description didn’t get explained or mentioned at all in the rest of the passage. The right answer will connect that wording to the support about how money “affects the artistic decisions” of filmmakers.

Map the wording of the answers to the wording of the passage:

(A) A creation has absolute integrity…

You should be skeptical about the fact that the passage says something does not have “absolute integrity”, but this says the opposite. The test expects you to recognize that ‘if it’s unaffected, it has absolute integrity’ doesn’t mean the same thing as ‘if it’s affected, it doesn’t have absolute integrity’.

(B) …were affected by the need to make profits, then that creation does not have absolute integrity…

This all maps to the wording of the passage, and makes the exact connection to the new wording in the conclusion that you’re looking for.

(C) The creations of individuals have more integrity…

The author never compares integrity of individual works to integrity of group works, and this answer doesn’t explain what “absolute” is doing in the conclusion.

(D) …has no bearing on its integrity…

The author only referenced “unconventionality” in the background info, so info about that doesn’t really affect their conclusion either way. This doesn’t map to the support at all, and it ignores “absolute” integrity.

(E) …unaffected by views about what is conventional.

Oh man, change that to “unaffected by profits” and we’re in business. But like (D), this focuses on a factor the author only talks about in the background info, while ignoring the “need to make profits” that the author’s support focused on.

(B) is the correct answer.
